Finding Love's Fortune - An Avalon Romance
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (June, 2001)
Author: Shelley Galloway
Average review score:

Very sweet romance
If you are searching for a book that you can share with your family, and especially a romance that you could give to your 13 to 17 year old daughter, this is an excellent choice. As an adult, I enjoyed it, but there was a little less tension than I would have liked. I gave it four stars because it is a very good choice for a young adult. The characters were very likeable, but, as I mentioned, there might have been a little more excitement, without losing the innocence.

Finding Love's Fortune
If you want a really sweet feel good romance, then this book is for you. I fell in love with this book and the characters. Mary Beth and Cameron are just so right for each other from the minute they meet as he seeks to find a buried treasure and she, with his help, make repairs on her house, while they are discovering love with each other and doing what they want to do in their lives. This is a very good book that will make you feel good inside!!

Hometown Reunion (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (August, 2002)
Author: Cynthia Scott
Average review score:

An endearing romance -- Highly recommended
High school graduation brought about a choice for Christina Marie Pierce between the boy she loved and acceptance at John Hopkins. Christi accepted Roger's proposal, only to return to hometown fifteen years later the single mother of two sons. While some things never change, like the local teen hang out The Pit when teens can eat ribs and talk all night. Other things change profoundly, like the former valedictorian of Miracle High School, whose brains only surpass his nerdiness.

From geek to hunk, Glenn Stark challenged Christi in wits every day of high school, but the game seems to be a lot more fun now. Glenn only returns to his hometown long enough to regroup following a layoff and to prepare the way for his business idea. Then he will be off to Chicago to corner the telecommunications market. Nothing could waylay his plans, except the girl he never forgot. Neither Glenn nor Christi are ready for a relationship complete with small town interference. Further, Christi defines success as permanence and roots. Success for Glenn requires a big city and big dreams.

Author Cynthia Scott pens an endearing romance about lost dreams and new discoveries in HOMETOWN REUNION. The Miracle high school reunion offers healing and love for Christi and Glenn, but only if they are bold enough to be honest about their true wishes and desires. Their humorous clashes and witty repartee regale the reader with amusing moments to juxtapose painful pasts. Secondary characters, especially Glenn and Christi's parents, likewise keep the humor coming as they provide their own fuel for small town gossip. A delightful read, HOMETOWN REUNION comes highly recommended.

Hometown Reunion
If you want a feel good book, one that sticks in your heart and makes you feel good inside, this is the book to read. I fell in love with Christi and Glen and their wonderful banter. Not only that but Glen's dad and Christi's mom were characters that made the book even more special. This book is a five stars but could be a ten stars - it was so super good. Bravo to Ms. Scott for a book that leaves you all happy inside!!!

If Not for You - An Avalon Career Romance

Applause to the Author!
"If Not For You" by Joye Ames

What a beautiful story! The command the author displays of putting more than words to page are amazing! Incredible details that create pictures in the reader's mind are throughout this book. I found myself turning page after page with the beautiful and sometimes terrifying seascape of the North Carolina coast used as the main setting for the story as vivid images while at the same time following the embracing story line. Compelled to read on, not wanting the story to end. Consider this book a sheer delight to read.

I really liked this book!
I really liked this book! There are very few adventure romances out anymore. This was a great adventure from start to finish! The characters were realistic and the dialogue was great! This author also writes as Elyssa Henry for Silhouette. I plan to check out all of her stuff!

Last Dance - An Avalon Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 December, 1999)
Authors: Joyce Lavene, Jim Lavene, James Lavene, and Jim
Average review score:

Good mystery.
This one is a great mystery. However, there were parts, in my opinion, that were not detailed enough.

It will grab the reader's attention quickly and hold onto it through out the book and is well written.

Yes, this one is worth you money!

Hard to put down until the last page is turned!
Prom night is a special night in every teenager's life; it is a night that should be remembered for the rest of your life. In a way it signifies you are on the way to becoming an adult and growing up. But unfortunately, tragedies occasionally are drawn to nights like these and when that happens it changes everyone's life and not always for the better. Sharyn Howard is following the family tradition, Law Enforcement. Her grandfather was the Sheriff of Diamond Springs, North Carolina and her father had replaced him. Now she has replaced her father becoming the first woman ever elected here for sheriff, unfortunately she had replaced her father because he was shot and killed. Now this small town has once again been shaken to the very foundations. Another young girl has been killed on prom night. The last time was exactly ten years ago at Sharyn's own prom, Leila Bentley was killed in almost the exact same manner. Sharyn isn't sure what is going on, but she has a gut feeling that this was the work of the same person. But to act on that would mean that her father somehow arrested and the town convicted the wrong man and the killer had been here all this time. Now Sharyn must decide if she is going to go against not just her mother and closest friends, but the entire town and reopen the old case to try and solve this one. Authors Joyce and Jim Lavene have created a book that is well worth the money to get it. Last Dance flows smoothly, fast paced with just the right touch. Although there is one section that could have been spread out more, with a smaller leap to the conclusion, it is still a book that is hard to put down and you won't want to put down until the last page is turned.

Sonoran Love Song (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (August, 1999)
Author: Marilyn Prather
Average review score:

An enjoyable read!
Marilyn Prather's ability to weave setting into her story until it becomes one of her characters is most evident in SONORAN LOVE SONG. While Callie Townsend and Reece Tanner struggle with their internal demons, the Sonoran Desert works a magic of its own in bringing these two together.

The desert comes alive, seen through the eyes of a newcomer as well as those of a veteran desert dweller. Vivid images send the reader into a world where well-drawn characters are brought together by the historic desert and its lore as well as their attraction to each other.

As Callie and Reece discover, the quiet desert is full of danger as well as passion.

Ms Prather is a top-notch writer!
This sweet love story had a hook that kept me reading until the very end! The desert comes alive because of the author's vivid descriptions. The hero and heroine, Callie and Reece, caught my sympathy from their first meeting in the dark desert night.

Avalon: Web Of Magic #5: Spellsinger
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (July, 2002)
Author: Rachel Roberts
Average review score:

The book was great, but it never makes Adriane look good.
Kara became such a selfish brat when she takes a unicorn horn that was not given to her and betrays friends to win a contest and the attention of a hot (singer). I also didn't like them giving away hints about Avalon, if they keep it from their own parents, why tell it to the town?
I also don't like that most of the books center Kara. I mean Adriane is a way better mage than that (barbie)!

Another Great Avalon
The three girls are once again trying to save Avalon. They have all been working together when Kara becomes a total loser and cuts classes, lies, and only cares about Johny Conrad, and is forgetting about Avalon, but Johny is really an evil skultum, and is faking the girls out. This is one of the best ones yet. But I give it 3 stars for some little kiddy content. Let's say when they sing at the end, it's supposed to be, you knoe, hip teens rocking out, but No. La, la, la, Avalon is cool. First of all, the other people out there really don't care about Avalon, and Be*Tween... if they know about Avalon, why don't you get them to help?

Spellsinger rocks! It rocks!
I loved this book. I read it 3 times. I loved all the songs near the end of the book. The plot is also cool. At the begining it's kinda boring, but after awhile it's great, so don't put it down till the very end! I recomend you read it and the rest of the series. I can't wait for #6!

Lady of Avalon
Published in Audio Cassette by Penguin Audiobooks (June, 1997)
Authors: Marion Zimmer Bradley and Davina Porter
Average review score:

Filling in the blanks...
I read MISTS OF AVALON and FOREST HOUSE several years ago, only recently rediscovering my delight in Marion Zimmer Bradley and her treatment of the Arthurian legends. LADY OF AVALON, like PRIESTESS OF AVALON, offers the rich history of the generations between Caillean and Viviane. Because LADY is really 3 stories -- Caillean and Sianna, Dierna and Teleri, Ana and Viviane -- it works more directly to strengthen the mystical connections between the primary characters from generation to generation. The trade-off is that each story is more of a mini-history than an epic read, but it fills in the blanks about the evolution of Avalon and the relationship of the sacred isle with the rulers of Britain before Arthur/MISTS. In each story here, MZB explores the complex relationship between the current Lady of Avalon and her successor-in-waiting, as well as the repetition of the primal drama/love story of the marriage between Avalon and Britain (the Lady and a mortal king). The relationships between the women and their mentors/mothers were actually more complicated and interesting. I enjoyed experiencing all the connections that this volume in the series prompts, and it sent me back happily to check details about the Forest House. With PRIESTESS, which in a subplot offers Eilan's perspective on Teleri's story, this proved a very satisfying return to Avalon.

An interesting link
After reading the _Mists of Avalon_, I considered it totally impossible for any book to even approach that elegance of writing. However, with _Lady of Avalon_ one does find trace elements of that wildly beautiful imagery that Marion Zimmer Bradley so masterfully captured in _Mists_. I would definitely recommend this book as a...stepping-stone, if you will, to greater understanding of MZB's Avalon.

The story itself is fairly straightforward, in three parts: the life and death of Gawen, son of Eilan; the Roman-era Carausius and High Priestess Dierna; and the more familiar Viviane's life as a young adult, from her childhood through the day she became High Priestess.

With Gawen, one finds the continuation of the Sacred Line as was started by the High Priestess of the Forest House at Vernemeton, Eilan. Those who have read _The Forest House_ have already heard the long tale of Eilan's and Gaius Macellius Severus Silucirus' forbidden union which produced Gawen. In _Lady of Avalon_ it is revealed that after his mother's and father's violent deaths, Caillean took Gawen to the Vale of Avalon. There, he grew to manhood, had a child with the daughter of the Queen of Faerie, Sianna, and subsequently was murdered by Romans (a common theme in MZB's Avalon, isn't it?).

After that sad episode the Sacred Line goes through many generations (MZB talk for "time passes") until the era of the Roman Empire in which Carausius and Dierna are the incarnations of the Sacred Line. Because of a twisted love triangle, they end up conceiving a child, after which Carausius is subsequently murdered by Romans.

Many years later, Ana is the High Priestess, the Romans are somewhat of a joke, and her only living daughter, Viviane, is taken to Avalon, where she eventually becomes a priestess and has her short-lived daughter with the son of Vortigern.

In all, this book was passionate and fantastical, while remaining true to MOA. I would definitely recommend it to any Arthurian fan.

Once again MZB's brilliance shines through!
Having recently read this amazing book, I wish to share my thoughts with those who have not yet been lucky enough to read it. There are few authours in the same class as MZB, and this book was well worth its pricetag. The book begins by contuning the story of Callean, priestess of the "Forest House". Bradley does well to weave this book in to her cloth of Avalon tales, and it fits snugly into place between the "Forest House" and "The Mists of Avalon". This book comes highly recommended to any fan of her work, and is a fantastic means of escapism. The characters are deeply rooted in Celtic and Roman beliefs and come to life before your eyes on the pages of magically worded text. This trilogy of books is sure to be regarded as some of the best writing of this gendre.

The Glastonbury Tarot: Timeless Wisdom from the Isle of Avalon
Published in Paperback by Red Wheel/Weiser (November, 1999)
Authors: Lisa Tenzin Dolma, Lisa Tenzin-Dolma, Caitlin Matthews, and John Matthews
Average review score:

Disappointed with deck
I'd been looking forward to getting this deck. While I've enjoyed reading the card intrepretations, I'm very disappointed with the deck. The cards have a kind of slick/sticky coating that makes them extremely difficult to shuffle. Plus the artwork leaves a lot to be desired.

Glastonbury magic
This is the best deck I have used so far. Even if the pictures aren't as beautiful as many other decks, they are brightly colored. The feel and accuracy of the deck makes up for any lack of ability on the artist's part.

The interpretations for the cards are easy to understand and apply to everyday life, they do not fall into the trap of oversimplification or cryptic meanings. I also found the histories of the people portrayed as a good way to ease into the legends surrounding the area.

I would recommend this deck to anyone.

sumptuous feast
Lisa's deck succeeded where all others have failed with me. I am able to remember the information about each card (I have a poor memory) because she packs so much symbolism into each image. Not only that but the energy she so obviously poured lovingly into each card shines so brightly as to burn their meaning into my very soul. I love the jewel-like colours, the way she portrays Avalon in both verdant and subtle hues, so adeptly conjuring up the soul-poetry and magic of this landscape and it's many and varied inhabitants. If I diodn't live here I would want to after seeing this fabulous deck which I would recommend to anyone who loves Glastonbury with it's profound mystery and soul-poetry... and to anyone who loves the Tarot. A rare treat.
